Literary Video Proposal

I will be making a video that encourages our students to read books. A few things I would like to include are book recommendations from some of today’s most popular celebrities, especially many male celebrities to show them that reading isn’t a “girly” thing to do, and that everyone can do it no matter what their gender is. I would also like to include a few of my own recommendations of a variety of books that appeal to all audiences. I would also encourage them to reach out and look for books that are about the things they like.

I chose this option because I like making videos, and anytime I get the chance to make one for a project, I take it. I think it’s a good way to reach students because they would rather watch a video and hear what's being said rather than read it. So, I see this as easing them into reading instead of pushing them right into it. And with a video they’d be more likely to pay attention to it. While I am choosing to make a video so that people don’t HAVE to read, I will be adding subtitles for those who can’t hear or want to read instead. There won’t be any specific color scheme, but I do have experience and techniques for this video that I have gained from previous projects, whether they be for school or side projects. I plan on posting this video to YouTube and attaching a link for the video to my blog.

What I think is most important when creating this video is being relatable. Giving the students something, they care about in order to catch their attention and pique their interest in reading. A few examples of some celebrities I plan on researching are Ice Spice, Michael Jordan, Nicki Minaj, Bill Gates, Emma Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson and more.

The video will also include visuals for each book because I believe the students would be a lot more interested if they saw what these books look like, because the covers of books almost always have nice art that depicts what the story is about. If possible, I would also like to show one if not all chosen celebrities person reading journeys, and their connection to reading. Th e music I plan on using is Instrumental Piano or Violin.

  1. You mentioned trying to get rid of how books are "girly" how are you going to make reading look masculine?

    1. By giving examples of male celebrities (hopefully some they look up to) that also read, to hopefully make them more open to it.

  2. I like the idea of easing reading into their lives, but how long do you plan on making your video?

  3. What if you can't find any mega relatable or popular celebrities with a history of reading?

    1. This won't be a problem because I already found them. Some of the celebrities I listed have a history of reading.

  4. I agree that making reading relatable is a great idea, but most relatable subjects are in different forms of content other than reading.

    1. This is why starting with graphic novels can sometimes be a great idea so readers can be eased into books without images. That way they can build on their ability to visualize the story without pictures.

  5. I like the idea of using visuals for each book in order to give those who aren't good at visualization yet an idea of what everything looks like.

  6. I like the idea of making a video and also like the structure of the video
